Excluding cancers of the skin, breast cancer is the most frequently diagnosed cancer in women.

Tumor Banking

Through your support of the Treva Hoffman Foundation, Oregon's first cooperative tumor bank will be born utilizing the existing Legacy Tumor Bank as its core facility. The Legacy Tumor Bank was developed by Katherine T. Morris, M.D., surgical oncologist and medical director of cancer research at Legacy Health. This statewide cooperative tumor bank will be developed by a consortium of Oregon physicians.

Why Tumor Banking

Did you know that Oregon has one of the highest rates of breast cancer in the U.S.? Access to standardized high-quality tissue samples and related data for research has been limited and is widely recognized as a roadblock to cancer research. This statewide cooperative tumor banking initiative will provide a comprehensive collection of cancer tissues with related de-identified patient clinical data that will enable participating researchers to address unanswered questions concerning the prognosis and treatment of breast cancer and other cancers.
